Hints + Tips

Storage

Your A1 Firewood should be stored in a dry, well ventilated shed, garage or in a log store. When storing inside in their delivery bag, make sure you open the top of the bag to allow air to circulate. If storing in their delivery bag outdoors, make sure the bag is kept off the ground and the top is well covered.

Burning

Heavier, denser hardwood can often be harder to burn, but don't worry, just follow these steps and you won't be disappointed.

  1. Start a fire using fire-lighter and plenty of kindling. Small hardwood sticks and very small splits can also be added. Hint: leave plenty of room for air to circulate between kidling sticks.
  2. Gradually add 3 to 5 more pieces of small round logs or splits (no big splits yet) once all the kindling has caught and begun burning. This builds a good hot bed to your fire.
  3. Once this is burning vigorously and you have built a good bed you may then add longer splits, 1 - 3 pieces depending on size of your burning appliance.
  4. As soon as these longer pieces catch and are burning you can close down your damper and adjust your air control to suit your temperature needs in accordance with stove manufactures directions.
  5. N.B. Do not let the fire burn out too much before you add more full splits or you will have to repeat steps 2 and 3. (however some people add smaller pieces of wood or additional solid fuel before adding full splits to their fire to give an extra boost!).
